His sarcastic caricatures were all over the internet during the Syrian Uprising, and he became known for his simple realistic style condemning war and persecution.
Hani Abbas was born in Yarmouk camp in Damascus, but he had to flee Syria and seek asylum in Switzerland.
The artist had many exhibitions in different cities and won several awards in Syria. In May 2014, he was awarded the Editorial Cartoon International Prize by Kofi Annan in Geneva. In 2018, his book A Fish in Noah’s Arch was published by Maysaloon Printing House.
Ammar Hassan described Abbas’ art in Al-Nahda newspaper, as the art of the burning eyes that refuses to see.
The artist contemplates the world from the window of his personal freedom while yearning for collective freedom, which he considers hard to reach and requiring many sacrifices. In one of his cartoons’ pieces, he drew a woman looking at the pictures of martyrs on walls. This symbolizes perfectly the message behind his art, as he starts with a contemplation of the world and always ends up siding for humanitarian causes.

امتلأت المواقع برسوماته الكاريكاتورية السّاخرة أثناء الثّورة السّورية ، وعرف بأسلوبه البسيط والواقعي والذي يدين الحرب والاضطهاد.
ولد هاني عباس في مخيّم اليرموك في عام 1977 ولكنه اضطر للخروج من سورية وطلب اللجوء إلى سويسرا .
أقام هاني معارض كثيرة في مدن كثيرة في العالم ، وفاز بعدة جوائز في سورية ، وفي مايو 2014 ، حاز على الجائزة الدولية لفنون الصحافة في جنيف من كوفي عنان. وكما صدر له كتاب (سمكة في سفينة نوح ) عن دار ميسلون 2018 .
وصف عمار حسن فنه في جريدة النهضة ، بأنه فن العيون المحترقة التي لا تريد أن ترى .
يتأمل هاني عباس العالم من شرفة حريته الفردية ، متمنيا بلوغ حرية جماعية يتوق اليها ويعتبرها صعبة وتحتاج للكثير من التضحيات ، ففي لوحة كاريكاتورية له ،يرسم هاني امرأة تنظر إلى صور الشهداء على الجدار ن فهذه هي رسالة فنه الذي ينطلق من تأمل العالم وينحاز دائما الى القضايا الانسانية .
يعمل هاني حالياً مدرسِاً للفنون والكارتون في مدارس جنيف الدولية وهو أيضا رسام كاريكاتور في مجلة ايبدو.
