The pioneer twins have found their common passion and have since been drawing together.
They are known as Twins Cartoons, the only signature they would put on their art as they want to have one name for them both.
They studied together at the Fine Arts Faculty in Egypt and graduated in 2008. I their thirties they started drawing comics and shared their artistic creation and big dreams with each other. They currently work with a number of comics’ magazines such as the Egyptian Alaeddine and the Emirati Majed.
In 2015 the Twins took a bold move and launched a comics’ magazine in Egypt titled Garage. The magazine is published every trimester by Kawkab El Rasameen platform and is fully funded by the twins without any external contributions. Garage is interested in professional and amateur artists with a passion for comics, and it tackles many issues contemporary adults face with a focus on social issues. The creation of this magazine is intended to increase the productivity of comics’ art in Egypt and establish it as a popular form of art. Moreover, the Twins are the founders of the famous CairoComix Festival.
Mohamad and Haitham are busy with the revolution inside Egyptian social life. Haitham has recently published on his Facebook page a cartoon titled Why isn’t there a personal space in Egypt? This is probably The Twins’ continue to dream big switching from reform and change to originality and uniqueness. Mohamad and Haitham are currently envisioning a global creation of Egyptian branding in pursuit of more free-flowing passion for the art, more criticism, and more advancement for Egyptian art.
توأمان رائدان، خلقا معا، ليشقا الدرب معا، ولتكمل يداهما رسم العالم على الورق، هما محمد وهيثم رأفت.
عرفا باسم «توينز كارتون»، التوقيع الموحد الذي سيتركه التوأمان على أسفل الرسم، فهما مُصران على أن يكون لهما اسمٌ واحد أيضاً .
درسا معاّ في كلية الفنون الجميلة في مصر ثم تخرجا عام 2008 قبل أن يتجها نحو القسم الذي يريدان أن يصنعا أفقا جديداّ فيه: القصص المصورة.
في الثلاثين من عمرهما، انطلقا نحو صناعة الكومكس واقتسما ريشتهما سويا، ويعملان الآن في عدد من مجلات الكوميكس المصرية كمجلة علاء الدين ومجلة ماجد الامارتية.
ولأن طموح التوأمين لا يتوقف عند حد فقد أقدما في عام 2015 على خطوة جريئة هي اصدار مجلة للقصص المصوّرة في مصر بعنوان «جراج» على نفقتهما الخاصة، وبعيداّ عن أي تمويل خارجي وهي تصدر بشكل دوري عن منصة كوكب الرسامين كل ثلاثة أشهر. تهتم جراج بالفنانين المحترفين والهواة الذين لهم شغف بفن الكوميكس، وتناقش قضايا البالغين ولاسيما الاجتماعية منها، وكانت الغاية هي زيادة انتاجية فن الكوميكس في مصر وجعله فنا شعبياّ.
وبالاضافة الى هذا الانجاز، فان التوأمان هما من المؤسسين لمهرجان كايروكومكس للقصص المصورة.
محمد و هيثم مشغولان بالثورة داخل الحياة الاجتماعية في مصر. نشر هيثم مؤخراّ على صفحته على الفيسبوك رسماَ تحت عنوان «لماذا لا توجد مساحة شخصية في مصر»، وهو ربما سؤالهما الفني بامتياز.
ومن التغيير الى الفرادة، ستكون الرحلة حيث يحلم هيثم ومحمد بابداع عالمي يحمل الماركة المصرية وكل ذلك في سبيل أن لا يتوقف ذاك الشغف وان يستمر النقد، وان يكون الفن المصري في المقدمة.
