Syria - 1985
Morhaf Youssef is a Syrian artist born in 1985. He attended the Institute of Applied Arts in Damascus, where he specialized in sculpture. However, his artistic direction took another path and he used his academic skills in animation, caricature, and fine art. In 2001, he began his career as a caricaturist specialized in animation and devoted himself entirely to his art. Morhaf has a statement that expresses his artistic vision: "Caricature is not just falafel!" His vision is not superficial, on the contrary, it’s purposeful and humanitarian. Therefore, he takes sufficient time to develop his idea, and to form the critical plot objectively.
Morhaf doesn’t address politics directly, as he’s interested in addressing humanitarian issues and the suffering caused by political events. Instead, he critiques the socio-political situation starting from the human perspective, not the event, giving solutions to problems. This is why his themes are universal, timeless, and applicable even after ten years.

فنان سوريّ، من مواليد 1985. التحق بمعهد الفنون التطبيقية، في دمشق، حيث تخصّص في فنّ النحت. ولكن توجهّه الفنيّ اتخذ منحى آخر، فاستفاد الفنان من مهاراته الأكاديمية ووظفّها في الرسوم المتحركة/Animation، والكاريكاتير والفن التشكيلي. عام 2001 بدأ مهنته كفنّان كاريكاتيري متخصص في الرسوم المتحركة، وتفرّغ كليًّا لعمله الفنّي. للفنان مرهف يوسف عبارة تعبّر عن رؤيته الفنيّة : "فنّ الكاريكاتير ليس قلي فلافل". مما يعني أن رؤيته لفنّ الكاريكاتير ليست سطحية، بل على العكس، فهو يراه فنًّا هادفًا ذا بعدٍ انسانيّ، لذا فهو يعطي الوقت الكافي لبلورة فكرته، وتكوين الحبكة النقدية بشكل موضوعيّ.
لا يتعرّض الفنان للحياة السياسيّة بشكل مباشر، فهو يهتمّ بمعالجة القضايا الإنسانية والمعاناة التي تترتب عليها الوقائع السياسية. أي يقوم بنقده السياسي الاجتماعي انطلاقاً من الإنسان، وليس من الحدث، فيذهب إلى النتائج ويعرضها محاولًا طرح حلول لها. لهذا نجد مواضيعه مطلقة، عابرة للأزمنة، فهي متناسبة مع الواقع الإنساني في كل زمان. قابلة للتطبيق حتى بعد ١٠سنوات.
