Kuwait
Sami is a Kuwaiti artist who considers himself an “Instagram cartoonist” due to his strong belief that social media is more effective than traditional media, as well as still publishing his drawings in Kuwaiti newspapers such as “Al Rai” and “Al Demnah News.” He believes that political cartoons are the most powerful type of cartoon, especially since the events taking place in Gaza and the world, which you can see through his drawings. He occasionally tends to work on social cartoons, especially through his presence in the cartoon magazine “Al Nas,” which was printed in Beirut and then in Kuwait. He was one of the second generations of its cartoonists who worked under the artist Abdul Reda Kamal.
No matter what the direction his drawings take, he aims in being influential, and in having the art of caricature present in Kuwait. From a national perspective, he participated in the founding of the Kuwaiti Caricature Association, along with his colleague, the association’s president, Mohamed Thallab, and others.
Sami grew up following comic strips, specialized in theatrical set design, but he started drawing cartoons in the magazine “Al Mahad,” before being influenced by a number of Arab cartoonists who worked in Kuwaiti newspapers, such as Naji
al-Ali and Ali Farzat, and then moved on to a unique personal experience that often sparked controversy.
Sami has also opened up to animation and directing cartoon films and series and graphic design, in order to continue his satirical criticism through them.

يعتبر الفنان الكويتي سامي الخرس نفسه رسام كاريكاتير "إنستغرامي" لكثرة إيمانه بأن وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي أكثر كفاءة من الوسائل التقليدية، ومع ذلك لا يزل ينشر رسومه في صحف كويتية مختلفة مثل جريدة الراي وجريدة الدمنة نيوز الإلكترونية. كما يعتبر أن الكاريكاتير السياسي هو الأقوى بين أغراض الرسوم الكاريكاتيرية، خصوصاً أنه مشغول اليوم في متابعة الأحداث التي تجري في غزة والعالم. ومع ذلك، يميل بين الفينة والفينة إلى الإشتغال بالكاريكاتير الاجتماعي، خصوصاً من خلال حضوره الفعال في مجلة "الناس" الكاريكاتيرية، التي كانت تطبع في بيروت ثم في الكويت، وكان واحداً من الجيل الثاني لرساميها الذين تربوا على يدي صاحبها الفنان عبد الرضا كمال.
ومهما يكن اتجاه رسومه، بدا مهتماً بأن تكون مؤثرة، وأن يكون فن الكاريكاتير حاضراً في الكويت، ومن منطلق وطني شارك في تأسيس جمعية الكاريكاتير الكويتية، إلى جانب زميله رئيس الجمعية محمد ثلاب وآخرين.
سامي تربى منذ صغره على متابعة القصص المصورة، وإختص بتصميم الديكور المسرحي، لكنه بدأ رسم الكاريكاتير في مجلة المعهد، قبل أن يتأثر بعدد من رسامي الكاريكاتير العرب الذين عملوا فترة في صحف الكويت، أمثال ناجي العلي وعلي فرزات، وينتقل إلى تجربة خاصة متميزة كثيراً ما أثارت جدلاً.
بالاضافة لذلك إنفتح سامي على الرسوم المتحركة وإخراج أفلام ومسلسلات كارتون وتصميم غرافيكس، ليتابع من خلالها نقده الساخر.
