While poet Nizar Qabbani was the "painter of words," artist Yasser Ahmed is perhaps the "poet of drawings." Ahmed was born in the Syrian city of Qamishli in 1977 and graduated from the Teachers College in 1997.

He started drawing caricatures before graduating, but he soon shot to fame, which was evidenced by his major presence in major newspapers, websites, across Arab media and advertising networks.

The sincerity and quality of his work soon earned him widespread attention from fans, and he has won a total of 12 awards for his caricatures, one of which was the Outstanding Cartoon Works Award at the Arab Journalism Awards in 2014, hosted in the UAE, under the auspices of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Ahmed has said that the purpose of art is clear, and should not take a neutral position when it comes to humanitarian questions: an artist is either with the oppressor or with the oppressed. It is black and white, and there is no gray area in the middle, he believes.

He has also said he believes in what the poet Qabbani wrote, "There is no middle area between heaven and hell." The reality of events in Syria has subsequently not gone unnoticed in his work, and his drawings have frequently expressed the sufferings of the Syrian people and refugees.

Building on his own experiences, he has drawn the suffering with the blood of his heart, in the hope of helping the children of Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, who are hungry and besieged.

In his drawings, Yasser has also taken aim at Daesh, or ISIS, and, as he explained to the "Mudon" newspaper, Daesh are extremists who do not represent Islam or the Syrian revolution. Daesh, he said, is a puppet in the hands of the tyrants, and they are deceiving people and spreading terror by forcing people to choose between the corrupt regime or the brutality of Daesh.

Ahmed has drawn and painted in tears and the blood of his heart, full of grief, and inspired by the bitter reality around him, which he has described as an infinite source of ideas.
If his drawings are living creatures, they walk side by side, and shoulder to shoulder, in military formation, facing injustice, arbitrariness and oppression head on.

Day after day, Ahmed's nostalgia for Syria has grown deeper. He tries, in his drawings, to steer a boat across choppy seas to the safety of the shore, to sit on a rock and look at the horizon, dreaming of a bright and secure and fair nation.

صدق‭ ‬أعماله‭ ‬وجودتها‭ ‬أكسبته‭ ‬اهتماماً‭ ‬واسعاً‭ ‬من‭ ‬المتابعين‭ ‬ففاز‭ ‬بـ‭ ‬12‭ ‬جائزة‭ ‬عن‭ ‬الرسوم‭ ‬الكاريكاتورية‭ ‬إحداها‭ ‬كان‭ ‬في‭ ‬حفل‭ ‬توزيع‭ ‬جوائز‭ ‬الصحافة‭ ‬العربية‭ ‬التي‭ ‬استضافته‭ ‬مدينة‭ ‬الجميرة‭ ‬في‭ ‬دولة‭ ‬الإمارات‭ ‬العربية‭ ‬المتحدة‭ ‬برعاية‭ ‬الشيخ‭ ‬محمد‭ ‬بن‭ ‬راشد‭ ‬آل‭ ‬مكتوم‭.‬

يقول‭ ‬ياسر‭ ‬أن‭ ‬أي‭ ‬غلط‭ ‬من‭ ‬أنماط‭ ‬الفنون‭ ‬ينبغي‭ ‬أن‭ ‬لا‭ ‬يكون‭ ‬محايداً‭ ‬فعندما‭ ‬يتعلق‭ ‬الأمر‭ ‬بالقضايا‭ ‬الإنسانية‭ ‬فإنك‭ ‬إما‭ ‬مع‭ ‬الظالم‭ ‬و‭ ‬إما‭ ‬مع‭ ‬المظلومين،‭ ‬لا‭ ‬منطقة‭ ‬رمادية‭ ‬بين‭ ‬الاثنين‭.‬

كان‭ ‬يؤمن‭ ‬بما‭ ‬قاله‭ ‬نزار‭ ‬‮«‬لا‭ ‬توجد‭ ‬منطقة‭ ‬وسطى‭ ‬ما‭ ‬بين‭ ‬الجنة‭ ‬والنار‮»‬‭.‬

لذا‭ ‬فإن‭ ‬واقع‭ ‬الأحداث‭ ‬السورية‭ ‬لم‭ ‬يغب‭ ‬عن‭ ‬فنه‭ ‬ورسومه‭ ‬معبر‭ ‬بهما‭ ‬عن‭ ‬معاناة‭ ‬السوريين‭ ‬واللاجئين‭ ‬منهم‭. ‬عجنته‭ ‬التجربة‭ ‬فقطر‭ ‬عليها‭ ‬من‭ ‬دماء‭ ‬قلبه‭ ‬متيمناً‭ ‬أن‭ ‬ينخرها‭ ‬ويقدمها‭ ‬منقوشة‭ ‬ساخنة‭ ‬لأطفال‭ ‬مخيم‭ ‬اليرموك‭ ‬الجوعى‭ ‬والمحاصرين‭.‬

وجّه‭ ‬ياسر‭ ‬سهام‭ ‬رسومه‭ ‬الى‭ ‬‮«‬داعش‮»‬‭ ‬كما‭ ‬كلماته‭ ‬التي‭ ‬أوضح‭ ‬بها‭ ‬لصحيفة‭ ‬‮«‬مودون‮»‬‭ ‬“Mudon”‭ ‬إن‭ ‬داعش‭ ‬والتطرف‭ ‬لا‭ ‬يمثلان‭ ‬الإسلام‭ ‬ولا‭ ‬الثورة‭ ‬السورية‭. ‬هذه‭ ‬الـ‭ ‬‮«‬داعش‮»‬‭ ‬هي‭ ‬دمية‭ ‬بأيدي‭ ‬الطغاة‭ ‬يخدعون‭ ‬بها‭ ‬الناس‭ ‬ويرعبونهم‭ ‬بمقولة‭ ‬إما‭ ‬النظام‭ ‬الظالم‭ ‬وإلا‭ ‬فالبديل‭ ‬هو‭ ‬وحشية‭ ‬داعش‭.‬

ياسر‭ ‬أحمد‭ ‬رسم‭ ‬ويرسم‭ ‬بدموعه‭ ‬وبدماء‭ ‬قلبه‭ ‬المعصور‭ ‬من‭ ‬الأسى،‭ ‬يستمد‭ ‬إلهامه‭ ‬من‭ ‬الواقع‭ ‬المرير‭ ‬الذي‭ ‬وصفه‭ ‬بأنه‭ ‬مصدر‭ ‬لا‭ ‬نهائي‭ ‬للأفكار‭.‬

لو‭ ‬قيّض‭ ‬لرسومه‭ ‬الحياة‭ ‬سارت‭ ‬مع‭ ‬بعضها‭ ‬البعض،‭ ‬جنباً‭ ‬الى‭ ‬جنب،‭ ‬كتفاً‭ ‬الى‭ ‬كتف‭ ‬كصف‭ ‬العسكر‭ ‬صارخة‭ ‬في‭ ‬وجه‭ ‬الظلم‭ ‬والتعسّف‭ ‬والقهر‭.‬


يوماً‭ ‬بعد‭ ‬يوم‭ ‬يزداد‭ ‬حنين‭ ‬ياسر‭ ‬أحمد‭ ‬عمقاً‭ ‬لسوريا،‭ ‬سوريا‭ ‬الحقيقية،‭ ‬فيها‭ ‬جرّ‭ ‬في‭ ‬قارب‭ ‬رسوماته‭ ‬في‭ ‬بحر‭ ‬متلاطم‭ ‬علّه‭ ‬يصل‭ ‬الى‭ ‬شاطئ‭ ‬آمن،‭ ‬يجلس‭ ‬على‭ ‬صخرة‭ ‬ويسرّح‭ ‬نظره‭ ‬الى‭ ‬الأفق‭ ‬البعيد‭ ‬حالماً‭ ‬بوطن‭ ‬مشرق‭ ‬ملؤه‭ ‬الأمن‭ ‬والعدالة‭. ‬
