Iraq
He is one of the most renowned Iraqi caricature artists specialized in children’s books, for he initially started his carrier in the world of children and worked for almost 40 years with great perseverance. Abdel Rahim Yasser saw the light in 1951 in the city of “Qadisya”. He graduated from the Fine Arts Institute (Bagdad) in 1975 and from the faculty of Fine Arts (Bagdad) in 1980.
He was one of the first artists to join "Majallati" magazine (for which he still works nowadays) and to publish cartoons in "Al-Sabah" newspaper.
At the beginning of the seventies, Yasser’s skills started to shine as he drew for several magazines including “Majallati” and “Al-mizmar” (1971) and worked as a painter for the public radio and television. He consecrated 10 years of his carrier (from 1980 to 1990) to children’s TV programs and published a number of cartoons and books addressed to kids while working for magazine such as “Al-Mootafarij” and “Alef Baa” and newspapers like “Al-Jomhoorya” , “Al-Nahda” and “Dar Al-Manhal” (Jordan).
During his childhood, Yasser was a distinguished painter and his teachers soon noticed his skills; getting a box of colored pencils was the most precious gift he had hoped to receive.
He often frequented libraries and was attracted by the drawings on the covers of novels and cartoon magazines to the extent that he actually sent his own to "Al-Mutafarij" magazine in Baghdad, only to find it on the front cover one day.
Yasser is one of the numerous successful Iraqi caricature artists, for he has found through the 9th art a way to express his frustration and get liberated from the restrictions enforced by the government.
His works are often characterized by symbolism at a time when direct criticism is taboo.
Yasser has also succeeded in capturing the moment and choosing the right subjects to depict a reality full of corruption and cruelty in a very innocent way where imagination meets reality.
Yasser’s works are shown locally and regionally; his global topics allowed him to participate in international exhibitions such as the first exhibition for caricature in Iraq (1974) and the Belgium gallery for cartoons (1977). He also drew and wrote the animated movie “Al-Chajara” (1979) and collected for his work various awards from the:

- Arab children’s book fair in Italy (1981)
- Yu Miri’s exhibition (Japan, 1986)
- Caricature committee in Cairo
- Cuba’s international gallery for caricature (1987)
-Arab cartoonists’ gallery (held by Arab World Institute in Paris)
- Turkish cartoonists’ international exhibition (1988)
-Arab cartoonist’s gallery (London, 1989)
-Third world countries cartoon gallery of Arab and African artists (Cairo, 1990).
Furthermore, Yasser is a member of the Iraqi artists syndicate, the Iraq Journalists Syndicate, the cultural association of Iraqi children, the general union for Arab Journalists, and the national committee for Fine Arts. He is currently the assistant manager of the Iraq's Children Culture House affiliated with the ministry of culture.

العراق
بدأ حياته مع عالم البراءة والطفولة، وبنى تجربة متماسكة فاقت الأربعة عقود مشحونة بالمثابرة، جعلته واحداً من أبرز الفنانين العراقيين، الذين تخصصوا في رسم الكاريكاتور ومجلات الأطفال. هو الفنان عبد الرحيم ياسر الذي ولد في القادسية العراقية عام 1951 وحصل على شهادة الدبلوم من معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد عام 1975، وعلى شهادة البكالوريوس من كلية الفنون الجميلة في بغداد فرع الرسم عام 1980. وكان من بين أوائل الفنانين المنضمين إلى أسرة مجلة «مجلتي» منذ تأسيسها أواخر عام 1969، حتى اليوم، كما ينشر رسوماته في جريدة «الصباح». مهارة ياسر، في الرسم الكاريكاتوري، وفن الرسم للطفولة تفصح عن تجانس وتاريخ مشترك يرجع إلى أوائل سبعينيات القرن الماضي، حين مارس الرسم في النشريات وفي «مجلتي» و«المزمار» 1971، وعمل رساماً في المؤسسة العامة للإذاعة والتلفزيون ـ قسم برامج الأطفال من عام 1980 إلى عام 1990. شارك في رسوم الأطفال والكاريكاتور لعدد من النشريات ورسم العديد من الكتب الموجهة إلى الطفل داخل العراق وخارجه بينها مجلتا «المتفرج» و«ألف باء» وصحيفتا «الجمهورية» و«النهضة» في العراق و«دار الآداب» في لبنان و«دار المنهل» في الأردن.
لاحظ أساتذة ياسر تميزه في الرسم، وكان حصوله على علبة ألوان خشبية أغلى هدية يطمح للحصول عليها. وفّر له تردده على المكتبات فرصة قراءة مجلات الرسوم الكرتونية، وشدته أغلفة القصص، فأرسل رسماً كاريكاتورياً إلى مجلة «المتفرج» في بغداد ليجده وقد صدر يوماً كصفحة غلاف. وتعتبر غالبية رسامي الكاريكاتور في العراق من الرسامين التشكيليين المميزين الذين درسوا الفن، وتميزوا بلجوئهم إلى الرمزية ودفع القراء إلى التأمل والتفكير نتيجه القيود التي فرضتها السلطات سابقاً، بحيث كان التشخيص والنقد المباشر من المحرمات. ونجح ياسر كفنان في تحقيق هدفه، وأصبحت لديه نتيجة خبرته، القدرة على تحسس ما يمكن أن يصلح في الوقت المناسب، فجمع بين الرهافة والمعرفة في اختيار الموضوعات وتنفيذها بتصوير عالم زاخر بالقسوة، والفساد، والبراءة أيضا، عالم لا تتحول فيه الأحلام إلى كوابيس، والتقط نماذجه بتقصي المشاعر اليومية، ورصد المفارقات، وسمح للخيال وباقي العناصر الجمالية بتكوين نصوصه الفنية.
يعرض ياسر أعماله الفنية محلياً وعربياً، ويشارك في المعارض الدولية، لأن موضوعاته ليست محلية خالصة تماماً. ومن أبرز معارض الفن والرسم التي شارك فيها: المعرض الأول لرسامي الكاريكاتور في العراق (1974)، معرض بلجيكا لرسوم الكاريكاتور (1977)، وكتب ورسم الفيلم الكرتوني «الشجرة» بالاشتراك مع رائد الراوي (1979) وقد حصل عنها على الجائزة التقديرية في مهرجان فلسطين
العالمي-بغداد، معرض رسامي كتب الأطفال العرب في إيطاليا (1981)،
معرض يوميري-اليابان (1986)، معرض لجنة الكاريكاتور في القاهرة، ومعرض كوبا العالمي لرسوم الكاريكاتور (1987)، معرض رسامي الكاريكاتور العرب الذي أقامه معهد العالم العربي في باريس، ومعرض تركيا الدولي لرسامي الكاريكاتور (1988)، مهرجان الرسم العربي الساخر-الكوفة غاليري-لندن (1989)، ومعرض كاريكاتور العالم الثالث للرسامين العرب والأفارقة-القاهرة (1990) حيث حصل على الجائزة الأولى مناصفة. كما نال العديد من الجوائز المحلية والدولية.
وياسر عضو في: نقابة الفنانين العراقيين، نقابة الصحفيين العراقيين، رابطة ثقافة الاطفال العراقية، الاتحاد العام للصحفيين العرب واللجنة الوطنية للفنون التشكيلية. ويشغل حالياً منصب معاون مدير عام دار ثقافة الأطفال التابعة لوزارة الثقافة.
